June 5 question – In this constantly evolving industry, what kind of offering/service do you think the IWSG should consider offering to members?
To be honest, I’m not sure how to answer this question. I suppose I use the IWSG simply as a means of reaching other authors struggling to make a name for themselves. I usually visit only once a month to post a comment on the month’s question, check out other authors’ posts, and comment on the comments I get on mine.
With that said, before I recommend ideas, I’ll make a point of visiting the site more often and reading what’s available. Today I read about opening lines and paragraphs, something I found informative. Thank you for being here and giving me a voice.

Hi! I live in Eastern Ontario. I'm married with three adult children and five wonderful grandchildren.
I prefer warm weather, and sunshine but winter gives me time to write.
If I’m listening to music, it will be something from the 1960s or 1970s.
I enjoy action movies, romantic comedies, but I draw the line at slasher flicks and horror. I love science fiction and fantasy as well.
I love to read; I immerse myself in the text and, as my husband says, the house could fall down around me, and I’d never notice. My preferences are as varied as there are genres, but nothing really beats a good romance, especially one that is filled with suspense. I love historical romance too, and have read quite a few of those.
If I’m watching television, you can count on it being a suspense — I’m not a fan of reality TV, sit-coms, or game shows.
Writing gives me the most pleasure. I love creating characters that become real and undergo all kinds of adventures. It never ceases to amaze me how each character can take on its own unique personality; sometimes, they grow very different from the way I pictured them!
Inspiration comes from all around me; imagination has no bounds. If I can think it, imagine it, I can write it!

Very much how I use IWSG, finding other people’s websites and diverse genres fascinating, inspiring and daunting too.
How many rewrites behind some legendary opening lines ?
Partly for personal reasons, and originally, because I live in an area where communications are poor, social media’s still a problem.

I’m by no means an expert, but I’ve often rewritten the opening sentence, paragraph, scene, even the entire first chapter of a book, trying to get it just right so that it captures the reader, and even when I think I’ve got it, I tweak it again. Perfectionism is hard to attain.

I think a lot of members of this group only reach out and connect once a month. It’s still very valuable and a way to make meaningful relationships with other writers and authors.

Nice to meet you, Susanne. I can sink into a book that way, too, whether I’m reading it or writing it. LOL You are not alone in your reluctance to offer IWSG suggestions. I felt the same way, because I wasn’t sure what all they do offer. I mainly blog on first Wednesdays and occasionally catch one of their Facebook posts.

I was stuck on this question, too. I love many of the people I’ve met through IWSG (like you) and haven’t had that experience with any other network blog hop.

Happy IWSG Day, Susanne! I try to visit as many members as I can on IWSG Day. Some of them I connect with more than once a month. Connecting with members always fills me up and leaves me inspired. All the best to you in June!

Okay, I don’t feel as guilty about not knowing how to answer this question! 🙂 I do enjoy being able to connect with other writers, even if it’s only once a month.
