Welcome to July and this month’s blog question.
July 3 question – What are your favorite writing processing (e.g. Word, Scrivener, yWriter, Dabble), writing apps, software, and tools? Why do you recommend them? And which one is your all time favorite that you cannot live without and use daily or at least whenever you write?
The answer to this question is far easier than last months. The only writing program I use is WORD. I have the latest version and have it updated regularly. I find it easy to work with my decuments and format WORDXP files for Amazon, the only publishing platform I use. In addtion to keying in my stories, I use the grammar and spelling aid and the listening function to hear what I’ve written. It’s an easy way to find the mistake the brain misses interpreting what is there as what should be. All in all, while the occasional upgrades frustrate me until I figure them out, I’m quite happy with the program.
I also use good old fashion paper and pencil to keep track of character names, descriptions, chapter size, and POV in a story to avoid headhopping. By knowing whose head I’m supposed to be in, I can make sure that I don’t stray. I know established writers don’t worry about such things, but I do. I’m also concerned about keeping my chapters more or less equal in size, usually between 4200 and 4900 words. I do most of my plotting in my head–pantser here– but I will occasionally write some down and of course, I keep hard copies of any research I’ve done and used for a story. That’s it.
Have a great second half of summer!

I love pen and paper — and Word — too 🙂

I’ll add one more to your list–WordPress! For spreading the good word about your writing.

You’re right!
Forgot that one and it’s important, so I should probably have added Amazon Ads, too.

Word works fine for me… IT thinks ( knows) I’m a technophobe and is bent on correcting this, persuading me to switch to something far more sophisticated.
About chapters of similar length … Very much prefer this, in the books I read and those I try to write, , but the fashion for chapters of dramatically differing lengths – or even just a single page, might be taking hold.
Identifying the POV in a chapter, head of page. Thanks. Will try to remember this.
A great second half of summer ? Maybe, but it’s 11C and raining.

It’s 34 C here and humid. Sure you want to change, not that 11 would make my arthritis happy. I dislike books with chapters that are too long or too short. I hope that doesn’t become the norm.
