2025 A to Z Challenge Blog for the Letter G

April 8, 2025. I hope you’re having a great time following my convoluted thought patterns as I work my way through the alphabet. The weather is improving slowly. Instead of freezing rain yesterday, we had a thunderstorm in the middle of the night, and the temperature went up to 20 C in the afternoon! Sadly, we’re back in single digits today. April is unpredictable. It’s supposed to follow the rhyme that claims April showers bring May flowers, but I learned long ago that precipitation takes many forms including snow and ice.

One of my greatest joys is my grandchildren, the gift God gives parents for not only having children but raising them without feeding them to the wolves. You’ve met Tonio and Eleni. Today, I want to introduce you to Georgia.

Georgia is my youngest granddaughter. While she may not look like her mother, she has her temperament and some of the family artistic ability. She is fiercely competitive in sports, a hard worker, and determined to get whatever she wants, but to her credit, she is willing to put in the work necessary to get it. She comes here on a weekly basis and helpd me do the things I can’t or shouldn’t, and I will miss her sorely when she leaves for college in August.

Georgia loves to sing and even manages to get up on stage with the cover bands on occasion. She also volunteers to read at church, participate in pageants, and even help out the choir. At times, she’ll react rather than act which can lead to some impressive disagreements. She can also be impulsive, diving into a situation without checking for rocks and other pitfalls, but she has a huge heart and is willing to go the extra mile when she needs to. She’s a member of her school’s senate and strives to do what’s best for the school, her fellow students, and the community. After she graduates from high school in June, she’ll be going to college to be an electrician. Yeah, another girl embracing the trades!

Meet Georgia.

And of course, there’s only one song that suits this sweet girl.

Hi! I live in Eastern Ontario. I'm married with three adult children and five wonderful grandchildren. I prefer warm weather, and sunshine but winter gives me time to write. If I’m listening to music, it will be something from the 1960s or 1970s. I enjoy action movies, romantic comedies, but I draw the line at slasher flicks and horror. I love science fiction and fantasy as well. I love to read; I immerse myself in the text and, as my husband says, the house could fall down around me, and I’d never notice. My preferences are as varied as there are genres, but nothing really beats a good romance, especially one that is filled with suspense. I love historical romance too, and have read quite a few of those. If I’m watching television, you can count on it being a suspense β€” I’m not a fan of reality TV, sit-coms, or game shows. Writing gives me the most pleasure. I love creating characters that become real and undergo all kinds of adventures. It never ceases to amaze me how each character can take on its own unique personality; sometimes, they grow very different from the way I pictured them! Inspiration comes from all around me; imagination has no bounds. If I can think it, imagine it, I can write it!

  1. Oh my, how did I miss that you were participating in the AtoZ too when you commented on all of my posts? Better late than never, I guess. I’m glad the weather improved a bit. We are in dire need of rain here.

Thanks for sharing about Georgia. She sounds like one fierce young woman.

  2. You have such a lovely family! When I read posts like this, it makes me a little sad that we couldn’t have kids, because had we had them when we first started trying, I may well be a grandma myself today! That’s so weird saying that though lol!

    1. Suzy, I’ve read all your posts and tried to comment but neither word press or your site will let me. Know that I am reading them though! We chose to have our children when we first married. They are all in school full time before I got my teaching degree and joined the workforce. Friends made different choices. Some stayed together, most didn’t.
