2025 A to Z Challenge Blog for the Letter J

April 11, 2025. Did that make you laugh? My husband emails me a Dad joke every morning. some are funny, some are real groaners, but in their own way, they all make me smile. Starting a day with a smile on your face, and a cup of coffee, can make everything seem brighter.

Laughter is the best medicine is more than just a saying; it’s a necessity. There is enough doom and gloom around us every day that we really do need to lighten up, and I don’t mean lose a few pounds–although in my case that’s probably true.

There are lots of political jokes out there and lots of lame ones, too, but there are some that still make me laugh.

We’ve all known people who consider themselves to be funny. As a teacher, I often had to deal with the class clown. In a lot of cases, those kids acted out to hide their insecurities, thinking no one would realize that there was a whole lot going on under their goofy behavior. Sometimes, it was tolerable. At others it came far too close to bullying to be funny.

What I don’t like are mean jokes, those made at the expense of others. Those cutting remarks that hurt. It doesn’t matter who you are, you do not have the right to belittle someone for laughs. Those jokes are right up there with so-called practical jokes. There’s nothing practical about them. Nine out of ten times, someone suffers because of those.

I’ll leave you with one more funny meme.

Hi! I live in Eastern Ontario. I'm married with three adult children and five wonderful grandchildren. I prefer warm weather, and sunshine but winter gives me time to write. If I’m listening to music, it will be something from the 1960s or 1970s. I enjoy action movies, romantic comedies, but I draw the line at slasher flicks and horror. I love science fiction and fantasy as well. I love to read; I immerse myself in the text and, as my husband says, the house could fall down around me, and I’d never notice. My preferences are as varied as there are genres, but nothing really beats a good romance, especially one that is filled with suspense. I love historical romance too, and have read quite a few of those. If I’m watching television, you can count on it being a suspense — I’m not a fan of reality TV, sit-coms, or game shows. Writing gives me the most pleasure. I love creating characters that become real and undergo all kinds of adventures. It never ceases to amaze me how each character can take on its own unique personality; sometimes, they grow very different from the way I pictured them! Inspiration comes from all around me; imagination has no bounds. If I can think it, imagine it, I can write it!

  1. Unfortunately, there was no way for me to locate your memes on the page so that I could run them through an image description app, but I chuckled at your comment about needing to shed some pounds. I also can’t stand practical jokes.
