And Justice for All Is Born!

Hello! Amidst the flooding tragedies, the wildfires, volcanic eruptions, wars, and the onset of hurricane season, I have a new book release. If you’ve been following this blog, then you’ve spent the last three months reading scenes from the first half of the book, And Justice for All.

When I started this romance suspense novel, I had one thing in mind and that was to bring a little Canadian perspective to the current drug and gun smuggling crisis at the Canada-US border–not from our side, but from the statistical evidence that shows how much of that poison comes into Canada from the US. This is particular true when talking about guns and human trafficking, as well as drugs including cocaine, fentanol, and synthetic oxycodone which has killed several people in Canada, most notably a teenage boy in Quebec this year. Then, I saw news articles about home-grown militia in both the US and this country, including a Canadian group that was preparing to take over an area in Quebec, and I added to the story. Finally, I noted the overwhelming number of police officers killed in the line of duty, and the full story was born.

So where was I going to set it? There is no doubt that Highway H2 O, the St. Lawrence River that forms the boundary between the US and Canada, has always been a conduit for smugglers. My own grandfather had the dubious honor of being a rumrunner during Prohibition. So, with all that in mind, I opted to set my story in the Thousand Islands. One of my favorite places to visit is the small town of Rockport and one of my favorite restaurants is Cornwall’s. We went on Sunday, had lunch, and then took a two-hour cruise through the islands. Here are a few pictures.

As you can see, there are some impressive cottages on the islands, but there are also some uninhabited ones.

Everything that happens in And Justice for All is the product of my wayward imagination. Is it built on facts, yes, and the statistics quoted in the story are accurate, but as for the rest of the tale, well, let’s call it a flight of imagination.

And Justice for All is currently available in e-Book format and on Kindle. It’ll be in paperback by the end of July. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FH2R6TPP

Blurb:

Someone is killing cops, and it’s up to them to stop him.

Eight years ago, Detective Maggie Sutton had her heart broken. She turned to her job to ease the pain, knowing that someday she would find the right man and start the family she always wanted. Fate had other plans. While she survived an ambush that killed her partner, the bullet that struck her ruined her chances of ever having the family she wanted. Now, her sole purpose in life is to find the one responsible. She’ll bring him or her to justice, but not until she understands the reasons for what happened.

When she returns to fulltime duties, she’s assigned to a new investigative unit dedicated to finding, identifying, and bringing to justice whoever is behind the ambush that killed her partner and nine other members of police forces in Ontario over the past three years. The problem is that her new boss is the man who broke her heart, and the one she just can’t forget.

Three years ago, RCMP Inspector Harry Collins survived an ambush that claimed the life of young officer. Since then, his sole purpose has been to find and stop what he sees as an organized effort by parties unknown to eliminate members of law enforcement. Walking away from Maggie eight years ago to do what he thought was the right thing was the hardest thing he’d ever done, but he can’t stay away any longer. Too much is at stake. Working side by side on this case may be harder, especially when he could well have put her in the killer’s gunsights once more.

The air between them is charged as they fight to control their passion just below the surface and find the killer responsible for the latest deaths. Will they succeed, or will the assassins finish the job they started?

Hi! I live in Eastern Ontario. I'm married with three adult children and five wonderful grandchildren. I prefer warm weather, and sunshine but winter gives me time to write. If I’m listening to music, it will be something from the 1960s or 1970s. I enjoy action movies, romantic comedies, but I draw the line at slasher flicks and horror. I love science fiction and fantasy as well. I love to read; I immerse myself in the text and, as my husband says, the house could fall down around me, and I’d never notice. My preferences are as varied as there are genres, but nothing really beats a good romance, especially one that is filled with suspense. I love historical romance too, and have read quite a few of those. If I’m watching television, you can count on it being a suspense — I’m not a fan of reality TV, sit-coms, or game shows. Writing gives me the most pleasure. I love creating characters that become real and undergo all kinds of adventures. It never ceases to amaze me how each character can take on its own unique personality; sometimes, they grow very different from the way I pictured them! Inspiration comes from all around me; imagination has no bounds. If I can think it, imagine it, I can write it!
