Welcome to March 2026. It doesn’t look a whole lot different from January or February 2026 in my neck of the woods–not that I live in the woods. Still cold, still lots of snow, but I’m hopeful that things will change. Spring is bound to show up sooner or later, but for the record, the groundhog is a lousy weatherman.
This month’s question:
What elements do you include in your book launch? Or what do you have in mind for your future book launch? Or what advice do you have to offer to others planning to launch a book?
I’m ashamed to say that I do very little to launch my books beyond posting on my blog, Facebook, and X that I have a new book out. I suck at marketing. I have been a guest on a couple of other blogs, and I’m grateful for that, but overall. I just put the book out and hope my fans and maybe a couple of new readers will see it. Not the best plan, I know.
In the past, I limited myself even further by being exclusive to Amazon, so that I could benefit from Kindle Unlimited, but this year, I am trying something new, an experiment in going wide. I am publishing my books with both Amazon and Draft2Digital and giving up the KU option on ten previously published books in the hopes that I will use the broader market to find new readers. I’m not much of a gambler, and to me, I’m taking a huge chance, but we’ll see how it goes. I selected books in a variety of genres to try first. Fingers crossed that the experiment is successful.
What about you? How do you launch a book?

I publish wide and have found that, through D2D, my library sales are doing quite well. Good luck!

I can see a day in the not-so-far future when that is my approach, too. Launching a book–my way–is taxing, tiring, and maybe not the most productive.

It’s frustrating to know what to do and how to do it.

I’ve been terrible at book marketing over the years! When I first started out, which was probably around 2010 (ish), I did everything possible to try and get the book out into the world but it was so much for work for very little return so these days I just blog, ask blogging pals to help share, send an email to my subscribers and a post or two across on my socials. I’m launching my very first non fiction this weekend, in fact, and that’s pretty much all I’m doing lol! Oh, I will do a YouTube video for this one as well! Fingers crossed!

I really don’t like marketing, but staying exclusively with Amazon (and using Kindle Unlimited) makes me feel like I’m giving something back to readers who have KU. Being a part of IWSG also is another way of connecting with other writers. That idea of being part of a blog hop or joint promos is something that’s appealing, even if I haven’t quite figured out how . . . yet. Best of luck on your next release! PS I escaped the snow and am a short term visitor to Arizona. Today’s high is 75F. Skies are sunny, but I’m kind of missing home!

Thanks. Fingers crossed that the experience is a success. If not, then, it’s back to the drawing board.
