Day 12 of the 2026 A to Z Challenge Blog for the Letter L

Good morning. Well, today will be a busy day for me. Unfortunately, it’s another rainy day–Noah may have to start work on the ark again. I have an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon today for X-rays and my one-year evaluation of my hip replacement. We’ll be discussing next steps for hip number two. It’s nowhere as bad as the first one was, but I never want to feel that pain again, so, if I can get on the surgery list later this year, that’s a bonus.

Today’s letter is L. Many words come to mind when I look at L. For example LIGHT, which has veveral meanings, LOVE, which again can be applied to a variety of people, places, things, and situations, LISTENING which is a skill I fear many of us have lost, not just in the sense of hearing but of understanding, but the one that comes to mind most this morning is LIFE.

I’m fortunate to come from a family with longevity. My father was 91 when he died as a result of a fall and my mother was 96. She may not have been healthy in mind at the end, but she wasn’t unhappy in her imaginary world either. But who am I to judge? I live in an imaginary world now.

This morning, instead of ruminating on the current conditions all around us that affect our lives in so many different ways, I’m just going to share some of my favorite memes with you, some of the ones I shared with my granddaughter when she realized that the life she’d planned out for herself was no longer the life she wanted. There are no guaranees in life, nor is it without end. Hold on to those you love.

Hi! I live in Eastern Ontario. I'm married with three adult children and five wonderful grandchildren. I prefer warm weather, and sunshine but winter gives me time to write. If I’m listening to music, it will be something from the 1960s or 1970s. I enjoy action movies, romantic comedies, but I draw the line at slasher flicks and horror. I love science fiction and fantasy as well. I love to read; I immerse myself in the text and, as my husband says, the house could fall down around me, and I’d never notice. My preferences are as varied as there are genres, but nothing really beats a good romance, especially one that is filled with suspense. I love historical romance too, and have read quite a few of those. If I’m watching television, you can count on it being a suspense — I’m not a fan of reality TV, sit-coms, or game shows. Writing gives me the most pleasure. I love creating characters that become real and undergo all kinds of adventures. It never ceases to amaze me how each character can take on its own unique personality; sometimes, they grow very different from the way I pictured them! Inspiration comes from all around me; imagination has no bounds. If I can think it, imagine it, I can write it!

  1. Lots of wise sayings there. If it’s meant to be it will happen. I sometimes feel like my life is preplanned – a bit like The Truman Show. Everything just seems to work out for the best in the end. Talking about Longevity I had three half siblings who lived to 96, 99 and 100. However my biological father died at 60 and my mum at 79 so there’s no predicting the future there.
